Hundreds of people turned up to 3t’s 2024 series of Careers Fairs hoping to secure a job or find out more about working in the oil and gas, wind, utilities, and construction industries.
The careers events, which took place in Aberdeen, Newcastle, Teesside and London, attracted more than 400 job-seekers and some of the energy industry’s biggest names including Atlas Professionals, AGR, Granite Recruitment, Sentinel Marine, Orsted, GEV, Boston Energy, EnerMech, Muehlhan, Correll Group, Petrofac and more. Hundreds of job opportunities were on offer ranging from apprenticeships to greenhand roles and from specialist technical roles to vacancies for skilled trades.
Engineering students from Newcastle College came along to our Newcastle event to find out more about getting into the wind sector. Newcastle College lecturer, Ben Lawson, said: “Events like this are incredibly valuable in helping to show our students what industry is really like and how they can get that first foot in the door. Being able to talk to real employers face-to-face, have their questions answered and find out what to do next is a fantastic experience for them. It really helps to bring clarity to potential career pathways and where they can fit in.”
Specialist subsea designer and manufacturer, Soil Machine Dynamics (SMD) was one of the companies attending the events looking for field service engineers, and electrical and commissioning technicians.
SMD field service co-ordinator, Chloe Watson, said: “This was a great event and has been a lot busier than we were expecting. It’s really useful to meet potential candidates in person to assess their skill levels and we’ve directed several to our website to fill in application forms. Although we are looking for very specific skills, we would definitely come back again to an event of this type as it’s a great way to see who is out there.”
It also marked the first time the careers events had been held in 3t’s London training centre at Enfield College, in partnership with London CCCG. Job-seekers and college students were able to meet with leading wind employers Muehlhan and GEV, receive guidance from 3t on getting into the wind industry, and take a tour of the state-of-the-art training facilities on offer.
In Teesside, wind services company, Correll Group, was on the lookout for High-Voltage and Fibre Optic Technicians to service upcoming projects. The company is experiencing huge growth, having doubled in size in the last 12 months alone, and is working on projects across the world from the USA to Taiwan.
Lesley Harston, Human Resources Manager at Correll Group, said: “Correll’s head office is just around the corner from 3t’s Teesside centre so it’s fantastic to have a facility like this on our doorstep. Our personnel are all highly skilled and require training to Global Wind Organisation (GWO) standards. As the leading wind service provider, we want to partner with the best training partner so working with 3t to upskill our workforce makes perfect sense. 3t also provides added value through events like this – it’s really useful to be able to come and look for future talent. We’ve spoken to dozens of people and I’ve no doubt we’ll be offering some full-time roles off the back of this event.”
